Hi all,
Newbie on the Belgium forum? Don't know how to start?
This thread is for you
We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in Belgium if you are planning to move there.

Welcome on board!
I am currently working offshore in India for UK's Insurance Company's Motor Claim's team as the Technical Claim's Expert/ Subject Matter Expert. I have overall 23 years of career life of which I worked abroad in Abu Dhabi for 12 years as an Executive secretary and Insurance industry for past 10 years. Just wanted help in understanding if its easy for an Indian to get job anywhere in Belgium in Insurance's Industry or any other company.
My name is Siviwe and I have been living in Belgium for one year now. I moved here due to a work transfer and have settled into the country quite well actually - apart for the major fact it is very difficult to make friends here.
So Im taking a leap of faith and putting myself out there and attempting to build a network of sorts.
I am a 29 year female living in Sint Niklaas and working at the Port. Very outgoing and would love to get to meet other expats and start building a life here.
Dear Friends,
My name is Merve. I am a Turkish girl. Currently i am working as an export manager in aluminium door and window company. We have many costumers from European countries.
Our company is planning to open a branch in Antwerp Belgium soon. That's why I'm going to settle in Belgium soon.
I speak fluent English and Spanish. And my Arabic is also intermediate. I heard a lot of Turks live in Belgium. I already have a Turkish friend who lives in Brussels. I hope everything's gonna be great.❤
I already want to meet the locals here and the people living in Belgium.
Hello Guys,

A lot of hugs,
Myself Mohammed Mubasheer, i am planning to migrate to Belgium. I have 9 years of experience in IT industry with technologies NetApp storage, VMware , Linux. Currently I am in Hyderabad, India. Will it be easy for me to come there and get job in few months. Please advice.
Hi everybody,
My name is Silvia, I am Italian and I recently moved for love to a small village, 20 minutes from Liege.
Since then, I am only speaking French (my boyfriend is Belgian) but I do not want to lose my English fluency, therefore I am looking for English speaking (mother tongue) friends to chat, share thoughts or simply to grab a beer.
Few words about me: travelling is my passion! I also love cooking, especially Italian food, going to concerts (rock music) and just hanging out with friends.
Bon fin de semaine à tout le monde
Silvia

I am Sanghamitra. I will be moving to Brussels in 1st of April and will be working as a consultant in an IT organisation.
Jonathan here. My husband is planning on retiring in two years and as we have family in Antwerp we are hoping to move/retire there. So doing a lot of research in things ahead of time and planning on doing a bunch of 'trial runs'
Hello everyone.

I work as a consultant as is my husband.

hi...another newbie
Single mother with a stable full time job and currently dating a Dutch national living in Belgium. We're planning on settling down but the journey is a lot more complicated with a child as compared if I were single. It's scary with all the uncertainties (am very used to being independent financially providing for my child) to moving and not having the financial freedom.
Also the process for the move seems a bit tricky and we're not sure where to get started and am hoping for some advice from those who've had experience moving/ marrying in Belgium with an EU citizen who's not Belgian.
Have a great week ahead everyone
Cheers!
Hello Everybody!
I’m Ashwin. I moved to Brussels from London early March. I’m an Indian national. I’m working as an advanced analytics lead with a Pharma company here.
It’s only been a month here and I’m already loving it. My hobbies are swimming, playing the piano, badminton and tennis.
I’m looking for fellow musicians (intermediate level) who’d be interested in jamming over the weekend.
Have a great weekend all.
King Regards,
Ashwin
Hello everyone,
I am Nikhil from India and currently living in the city of Bangalore in India. This September 2019, I am going to join Ugent for my European MS in Photonics(Applied Physics).
I am hoping to make some friends from across the world who are currently living in Ghent or soon going to shift to Ghent. In the process, if I could get some practical information about Ghent that would be amazing.
Cheers!!
My name is Gregor, I'm 30 years old and from Austria. Since June of last year I've been working as a Radiation Protection Technician in Doel and I'll stay there until May next year. I just rented a small house between Sint-Gillis-Waas and Kemzeke that keeps me busy during my vacation. But it's nice to have my own place after living out of suitcases for the last two years.
I hardly have any contacts around here so I wouldn't mind to get to know some expats living in the area.
Hi, my name is Karoline. I am Belgian, I love writing, and I love speaking English
I organize creative writing classes in Leuven. Are there any authors here?
Hello All,
I live and work in Flemish part of Belgium. I made it already some years and speak basic Dutch. Joined the forum to be able to network. Originally, I am from Ethiopia. If someone here is up for sharing some Ethiopian coffee or cultural talk, feel free to reach out to me.
Looking forward!
Martha
Hello Karoline,
How can I find more details about your creative writing sessions in Leuven?
I live in Leuven and I would like to consider following it, if I can easily combine it with my other commitments.
thanks,
Martha
Hi Martha,
Thanks for your reply! I forgot to include th link to my website: ***
Would be nice if we could all write stories together!
Karoline
I'm guessing this site does not allow for direct links to websites? If you google Creative Writer's Café Leuven, you will also end up on the site!
Kind regards
Karoline
Hi everyone
My name is Maria and I am from the Caribbean (Jamaican-born, but have lived in other countries). I love to travel, meet new people and experience different cultures. I will be studying at KU Leuven in September and I need tips for an easy transition.
Hello! I don't know any French or Italian, but I don't mind helping you practice English when I do get to Belgium. I love teaching, and although I do not have any formal TESL experience, I have helped a friend from Peru (a beginner in English when I met her) to reach intermediate level through informal interactions. September is far away, but I am up for the task.

Welcome to my country, it is always nice to receive people who are interested in other cultures than theirs. You will see that the Belgian can be very welcoming and open if you leave the English yoke to learn one of the local languages ...
And if you have some questions, raise a new topic.
Thank you for the warm welcome, Philpiemar.
The reason to have the drive to learn & be a part of new cultures stems from the fact that I grew up in 10+ cities and counting!!
Will reach out in this community for any future queries.
Best!!
Hi, I'm Harshaniy. I have been a teacher of English for the past 20 years in my country, Sri Lanka. But I hope to move to Belgium very soon. I have found work in wichelen, which is not a teaching job. Unfortunately, my employer hasn't been able to get the work permit which enables me to get my visa. So, I thought I could find a teaching job there which I'm familiar with and move there.
I visited my friend in Sint Nicklaas last August and this April. I hope to visit in coming August again. I sincerely appreciate advice and friendship which I'm greatly in need.
Regards.

Hello everyone!
My name is Mileshree and I'm from Johannesburg, South Africa. I'm currently awaiting my single permit to begin my new role in September. My husband and 11 month old daughter will be joining me. We are looking to settle down in Brussels.
My husband and I have started attending french lessons in hope of making the transition and integration easier. We grew up with Afrikaans as a second language so Dutch is a bit easier for us to grasp.
We are extremely excited and nervous for this next chapter. I have been following these forums for a while to gain knowledge and advice on certain topics - you all have been extremely helpful so a big thank you!
Best wishes to you all!
