Shipping a 45KG dog back to America

Hey,

I adopted a 45 KG stray dog (actually a Golden Retriever street dog)a few years ago here in China. We are now moving back to America. It appears to be very difficult to do this now. We have helped friends in the past with paper work and it was never so hard.

Any ideas on the best way and best airline? United directed us through a special handling service which wants to charge about 4000.00 USD and that does cover the vet fees. We are flying out of Shanghai.

Firstly, I would suggest that you NOT use any American-based airlines. Use a Chinese-based airline. They will be far more understanding, more helpful, cheaper and easier to work with.

There is a book that I could write why this is the case. But, in general, Americans and American companies are feeling pressure and constraints from all sides. I would suggest you get tickets on China Airlines and work with them to transport your dog.

Secondly, coordinate your pet relocation though a Shanghai pet relocation service. Don't use a Western based one.

You should work with others who have done this before. My suggestions are based on my experiences in other areas of a similar nature. Best of wishes.
