Wood, and where to get it.

Post new topic

BillyTea

I just got back to Perth from Bali yesterday.
While I was there I decided to build a couple of things in wood.
I didn't really have time to look around for wood merchants,
but from what I've seen, there doesn't seem to be a lot of places
selling wood cut to size, rough sawn or planed. A bit depressing
for an avid D.I.Y. man.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ayambik,
Sorry for the late reply.
I had in mind to build some furniture. The likeliest source
would seem to be pallets, new or second hand. We did have
some pavers delivered on a pallet and I was able to use the
wood from that for a few little projects. But the wood is, of
course, poor quality and rough, and I don't have the tools
to professionally finish it. Nevertheless it would do at a push.

Ubudian

It would help to know where in Bali your project building is going on.

Hi billytea,  how ru
Hope all fine there
In my point of view,  what you need is raw cut to sized wood for your DIY furniture project.
Can you tell me what kind of wood do you need
Thx

BillyTea

Hi Ubudian,

Well, if you find MSA Kargo at 238 Hyam Wuruk, Sumerta,
there is a road opposite JL Pakis Haji. 5 minutes drive/ride
along there will put you within a few yards of our kost. As
we speak JL Pakis Haji is being paved thank heaven. And not
before time.

Hi Ayambik,
The dimensions of the wood which make up a pallet would
suit me just fine. I believe they are made of pine.

Ubudian

On your next visit back to Bali you might want to come up to Sukawati just outside of Ubud.  This is where the greatest amount of furniture makers and wood suppliers can be found.

Yes Ayambik, that looks like wood I can use.

BillyTea

Thanks Ubudian, Sukawati sounds like a good place to visit.
On my return to Bali  (soon but not yet booked) I will go there
and view and perhaps buy some of what the merchants in
Sukawati have to offer. Then I might visit Ubud for a beer
and check out whatever culinary delights I might find.
