I'm an ugly person, but I'll try to help a little anyway.
Apart from the above advice to post on the Scottish bit, you should try to be specific as to where you want to live as prices will vary greatly.
Even if you go down to one city, say Glasgow, there will be a massive variance in price by area, the drug riddled slums being far cheaper than upmarket places.
One bit of advice - If you see a Scottish man wearing a skirt - Don't laugh at him, they throw trees around for a hobby.
