Dear all,

I am currently in Oman with a valid Workpermit and a Visa which expires in October.
As my Job will be done by June I asked my employer to issue a NOC which he denied as being afraid that I might work for an competitor.
I informed my sponsor that I will leave in this case in September as I still need time to sell my car, empty my house and settle all issues here in Oman as I will not be able to come back for 2 years.
I have no problem staying here without salary on my own costs until then.

Now my employer asked me to leave and cancel my visa, probably as he is afraid that I might make a complain at the MoM for not paying salaries in the next months.
He also gave me the option to work in another branch of the company 1000 km away from my home, which I denied as such is not part of our agreement.

Can my employer force me to leave the country before Visa expiry? Can he force me to leave my house to work for a total different branch?

Thanks in advance!

Sumitran

Hi Travel82,

Regarding your relocation to a different branch, see what is specified in your employment contract about relocating you.

If there is a clause which says such a transfer is possible, then you can do nothing about it. But if there is no such clause in your employment contract then your employer cannot force you to join in any other branch, than the one for which you were appointed.

Well, as you may have probably known by now, an employer wields more power and push than an expatriate employee does, the Ministry of Manpower notwithstanding.

If push comes to shove, an employer can force an employee to exit the country by cancelling the employee's employment visa - with or without the employee's knowledge even.

It would be better for you to seek some professional legal counsel.
