As of 2015 it was 267,000 annually, or roughly 22K/mo ($440 US). But that would barely cover food for a family of 4, much less housing and utilities.

And that is for a LOCAL family with minimal or no rental and utility costs and knowledge of where to buy food, clothing, etc. cheapest.

For an expat family of 4, outside of the major cities I would plan on monthly expenses exceeding $1,000 US a month as a minimum and that will probably be difficult.  I would plan on spending at least $2,000 US a month.

Yes, I gave him the official number from PSA. He asked for standard family, which I took to mean Filipinos with a native lifestyle. But yes, for an expat $1000-1500 min, depending on location. We (4) spend about $2K with a western lifestyle -  live in a nice condo in Cebu, have a car, kids in private schools etc.
