I plan to move to BC from Massachusetts. I will have a pension from New York State Teacher Ret. System. Will I have to pay both Canadian and US taxes on that pension income?

There is a tax treaty in place between Canada and the US.   You will only need to pay taxes in one country.  There is a lot of information on-line regarding this issue, or you can consult with a tax adviser in either country who specializes in international taxes..
