Hello,
My husband and I have been presented an opportunity to relocate to Reims. We are excited about the opportunity but we have many questions about schools. We have three daughters age 11, 9 and 7. We are English speaking. I found an International School but the website is in French of course. Looking for someone to help us get more information.
Thank you, kindly.

Hello,

Like any parent, I understand that you are looking for the best for your children. But why do you want to prevent them from discovering a new culture and a new language?

You know in 99% of situations the blockage on the language barrier is an adult psychological problem. Not a child one.

Of course, your kids will have tough for a month or two. And that their school results will fall. But you will be surprised by their ability to adapt.

As an adult, you will need at least 2 to 3 times longer to speak as well as they do.

I have a 14 year old girl who speaks French / Portuguese / English and a 4 year old son who speaks french and portuguese ...

So my advice is simple. Put them in the normal public education and just support them without complaining about the drop in their academic results.

I’m not opposed to them learning a new language. I think that would be fantastic. But my husbands employer is looking at sending us over for a two year commitment and so my children will be returning to an American school. I have questions regarding the curriculum. Unfortunately where we live they don’t start foreign language until 7th grade, age 13.

How do you want your children to forget English? Since this is the language with which you will automatically speak with them at home ...

It will be your role at home to make them evolve in reading and writing English.

Regarding the French educational program, as far as I know, it is more complete in France / Belgium than in the USA because it is a general program. Rather than oriented in one direction or the other.

Here is the link of the French website that will give you the opportunity to know exactly the type of course that your children will follow. But you will have to do an online translation. https://www.education.gouv.fr/cid81/les-programmes.html

You could also see from your side if there are opportunities for distance learning courses from the USA.

Because France has put this in place officially for many years. https://kids.englishforschools.fr/

Hi there,
Just piggy-backing off of your question. Were you able to find any more information regarding the best international , bilingual school.  If you did, could you please share with me?
Our little one has been in local french school and its good, his french is picking up, but I feel that , if we decided to go back to the states, he would behind, regarding some topics. His math level on the other hand has increased.
