Hello everyone,

Having a disability should not be a barrier to living abroad. While the intricacies of one’s move to Saudi Arabia may be specific to the individual, certain steps can be undertaken to make the process smoother.

What are the important aspects you would personally keep in mind during the planning phase (social security benefits, ongoing medical treatment, etc.)?

Are you required to go through a medical check-up before your move?

Are there any organisations or groups who lend support to expatriates who have a disability?

What are your thoughts on the infrastructure in Saudi Arabia (public spaces, transportation and buildings)?

Are there enough opportunities to make the most of your social life in Saudi Arabia? Are leisure activities made accessible to people with disabilities?

Please do share your experience with us.

Dear Bhavna,

I was in Saudi Arabia for 5 years and find it disable friendly  with respect to ramps in most of the buildings which includes malls, offices & parks etc.

Also reserved parking is available every where is which is always empty as people respect the rights of disable.

Depending on disability they can do many things like even driving a Car as all the cars here are Automatic and can be driven easily by one hand and leg.

Regarding Medical Check up it is compulsory for all to have Saudi ID Iqama same is case for insurance. One should scan various insurance companies and their plans if insurance not provided by employer.

Hope this reply will help someone...

Thanks...

Dear Bhavna,

What are the important aspects you would personally keep in mind during the planning phase (social security benefits, ongoing medical treatment, etc.)?

> Social Security benefits, We don't have anything, Apart from a company provides (Social Security Benefit).
> Nowadays, No company will give benefits, Because of Government issues like Saudization and many more. But expected market to recover in 2020.
> Medical Treatment, When you apply for a visa, Medical test will be taken for decision making. Yes, You have make medical insurance because here medical fee is very costly.

Are you required to go through a medical check-up before your move?

> Yes, Answer is on the first question.

Are there any organizations or groups who lend support to expatriates who have a disability?

> I don't have an idea, but I am sure they will be some benefits. But Again, you cannot expect much & more.

What are your thoughts on the infrastructure in Saudi Arabia (public spaces, transportation, and buildings)?

> Now, it is getting construct and development is coming for public spaces like Riyadh Park, Library &
  Many more.
> For, Transportation we have buses, taxi & Many more. But it is costly. To save money you have to buy a car, we don't have better transportation facility. But the good thing is that here petrol is very cheap.
If you have a car, Then you can live a happy life with your family (But you have to pay the dependent fee for your family).

Are there enough opportunities to make the most of your social life in Saudi Arabia? Are leisure activities made accessible to people with disabilities?

> If the family is there then it is very good and Salary is good, then you can purchase and enjoy life in Saudi Arabia.
>  I don't NO.

Regards
Ikramuddin
