Six month stay in Nha Trang. 3 months exit ticket before first entry?

Hi,

I am getting an airline ticket spanning six months from entering Vietnam and then leaving after 6 months. This is my main ticket. I would also get a 3 months VISA.

Then I would need a ticket to leave Vietnam before my first 3 months Visa expires.
I would probably go to Thailand or Hong Kong for a few days BUT...can I buy this ticket after I have landed in Vietnam OR do I need to get it before entering the country the first time?
