ESL teaching work information Malta

Post new topic

Hi guys,

I just have a few questions about the ESL industry in Malta as I am moving there in 2020. My questions are as follows:

1: What is the average ESL teaching wage in Malta? (2019 rates)

2: Are the wages paid weekly or monthly?

3: I have a degree in linguistics, a post graduate TESOL qualification/Specialisation and
a few years teaching experience gained mostly in Australian Colleges. Can I work in private secondary schools with these qualifications? ( I am an English native speaker and I am also a European citizen)

Any up to date advice will be appreciated because all the info I am finding online is about 3-5 years old.

Thanking all you lovely souls in advance! 😊

The language schools over here are private schools. Teachers are considered professionals. However, do not expect a salary a government employee will get in Australia or the UK.
As long as you are an employee you have to be humble about payment in this country. Private school teachers usually get an hourly wage which is 50% above the minimum wage. Just google minimum wage in Malta and you know what to expect. Of course an alternative is to open a private school. May be you can open one in Gozo. In this case you are the master of your creativity and your income.
