Hello everybody,

I am Shrikant, new to this group, and a non EU/TCN planning to move to Malta as I am in the process of getting hired by a company for a permanent position. My understanding is that it would be a single work permit, applied by the employer.
I would like to know that would I be able to bring my wife who is also a TCN, to live with me? If yes, what visa is that called and will she have the right to search for employment. As I read on official sites for family reunification for a spouse of a TCN, it says that one has to live in Malta for 2 years minimum and have a salary over 19,000 euro annually along with minimum requirements of accommodation for 2 persons and health insurance. Provided I satisfy all these, my only concern is to bring her along or shortly after I reach (whichever is allowed) and try and get her access to work permit. Is it possible?

I would be really grateful to you if you could share your experience on the same and guide me. Cheers.

It's better to go for tourist visa than visit visa,if your wife can prove that she is independent and having financial statements, its much easier to get by.

If you are unable to get this due to any reason then visit visa is only choice and for that 3 salary slip bank statement and rent agreement will serve the purpose.

Once in malta it's easy to apply for residency of your wife on the basis of your own residency card.

In both the cases your own card is must.

P.S : when I did the same question  unfortunately no one answered their real experience.

Hi Aarav,

Thanks a lot for taking out time to read my lengthy queries and reply to them. Really appreciate it. As you suggested, after entry of spouse to Malta from either visa process, I would have to apply for her residence permit.  Would this allow her to work then or would she have to wait for a period of time. Thanks again. Take care

First let her come into malta, apply for her residency as family member, normally residency card comes after 1 month from application date in identity malta.

She will not have work right, for that you to follow the same process which you have followed but from within malta, only after she get her single work permit which takes 2 month on an average
for  approval letter she can work.

Good to hear this finally from someone that it is a possibility without having to live separately for 2 years. Could I have your email address, if I ever want to get in touch with you regarding any other advice. Thanks alot Aarav.
