Many thanks in advance.

there are UN staff members in Benghazi. You can check in Tibesti Hotel, the best hotel in Benghazi. The eastern part of country is quite peaceful at the moment.

Check with your embassy prior to ANY travel to Libya, nothing at the moment is guaranteed.

Many people are dying on a daily basis in Libya, our thought, hopes and prayers should be with them all.

Thank you Clansman for your advice. As a war reporter, this is why I'm going !!!! My friend Chris Hondros, american photographer, died in Misratah a month ago. And I know a lot are suffering in the country...
Are you in Tripoli at this moment ?

Dear War Reporter
I am sure you also know that ALL expats left Tripoli more than 3 months ago. If there is anyone left that would be your breaking story and I would very much like to know about their story!

No my friend as FK pointed out all ex-pats left either on commercial flights, or as in my case on an RAF evacuation flight organised by the British Foreign and Commonwealth office, (some were avacuated via boat from Benghazi to Malta).

You take care of yourself out in Libya, you will find the people very caring and helpful, although (through brief conversations I have had with Libyan friends still in Tripoli) you will find that people are really struggling due to lack of food/fuel and medical supplies, I am unsure how the Eastern part of Libya is coping.

My heart goes out to you with regards to the loss of your friend, I witnessed some horrific sights prior to leaving, and the ones suffering are the Libyan people themselves, it is a truly wonderful country with lovely people, I can't wait to return and try and help with the rebuilding of the country.

Once again take care.

Hi, there are still expats in Trip and Benghazi, so it's no breaking story.
If going into Benghazi as a reporter you should have security supplied by your company, a secure route in and hotel bookings etc already in place, DO NOT go in alone.
If you need any advice or contacts PM me, I am heading in next week, I can help with contacts, villa / hotel, driver, translator, car etc.

I am still in Tripoli and there are others as well.  If you are interested in real fact-finding there is an NGO in Tripoli committed to just that.  You can PM if interested.

Bluejay, PM me, Need to know who you are and why you are there.
