CV coaching

Post new topic

Samir__Reghaia

Hello everybody;

I am actually searching a job in the UAE (from France).
My CV in written in the "French way" and I would like to improve it. As I saw, the UAE way to write it is different, and the CV must really be well presented and result driven.

I want to take a coach for writing my CV. I see a lot of websites who propose that service (Top CV, Monster, Gulftalent...) but I don't know which one to choose.
Does anybody have any experience in that? Do you know proffessional CV coaches to recommand?

Thanks.

Hi;

Anybody to help on this subject? I was near to take TOP CV coaching (proposed by Indeed.ae), but I don't know if they are efficient. Any feedback?

Cheers;

Good luck

Personally, I would not recommend any CV coach.  They do what you can do yourself but charge you money and furthermore, the CV comes across as having been written by a third party (clear from the formatting and style).

There are many articles on the internet about how to write a good CV.  You can take the learnings from there.  The only additional elements on UAE CVs which are asked for are nationality, date of birth and visa status.  And at times, marital status and number of kids.  There is no such thing as questions you can or can't ask during the hiring process in this part of the world :).

Thank you XTang.
Can you tell me something about the ATS (Applicants Tracking System).
In the (free) CV reviews that we can find on big sites as Indeed.ae or MonsterGulf, they often speak about it.
The summary of my CV  (that was provided, as I was told, "from these ATSs") didn't represent my CV. I have more than 10 years experience and they told me that I appear as an Entry Level Engineer (1 year experience).
As I understand these software make a kind of summary of you CV and this allows the HR managers to process and select more quickly. Is that right?

To put it simply, all ATS systems do is:

1) Capture your CV in a database in a standardized format
2) Match your CV vs. the job requirements
3) Flag the appropriate CVs to the recruitment team for further review

The problem comes in if you have a non-standard CV with lots of graphics and tables - most of the ATS systems will produce disjointed summaries of the same.  The second issue is that if your CV is not tailored to the job description with the right keywords, it will also get missed out.

Below are some good tips to game the ATS system (from an external website):

Carefully tailor your resume to the job description every single time you apply.
Optimize for ATS search and ranking algorithms by matching your resume keywords to the job description
Use both the long-form and acronym version of keywords (e.g. “Master of Business Administration (MBA)” or “Search Engine Optimization (SEO)”) for maximum searchability
Use a chronological or hybrid resume format (avoid the functional resume format)
Don’t use tables or columns as they often cause major parsing errors
Use a traditional resume font like Helvetica, Garamond, or Georgia
Don’t use headers or footers as the information might get lost or cause a parsing error
Use standard resume section headings like “Work Experience” rather than being cute or clever (“Where I’ve Been”)
Save your file as a .docx if possible
