hello, im from philippines i have a french boyfriend he visited me here in philippines already last july he stayed 1month here in philippines and he will visit me again this coming december can i asked some questions about what are the process to get married in france we were planning to get married in france instead here in philippines he already asked the city hall in france said i need to provide certificate of custom which is i dont know why ? and how can i get that here in philippines 😞😢 anyone can help me gave me some best advise ? how to get married in france. thank you.

Probably you should post this directly on the France forum. But you need to explain what you mean by "certificate of custom" since there is really no such word or expression in English. To get married one, usually needs a document from your home country stating that you are not already married; the reason being rather obvious. Maybe this is what you are referring to?

My Boyfriend did asked that in city hall that's what the city hall said that i need to provide from embassy here in Philippines "Certificat de coutûme" in french and i dont know either why because i can provide proof that in single but tha certificate i dont know how to get that😞😞😞

What is a certificate of custom?
This is the attestation of a foreign lawyer about the existence, content and interpretation of a foreign law. Where a litigation law requires the application of a foreign law according to the conflict rule, the litigant who intends to rely on it shall produce a certificate of custom to the French judge.

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND WHEN I SEARCH ABOUT IT..

According to what you wrote it is a statement from a lawyer about a law. Fine but what lawyer, about what law(s) and why? None of it makes sense. But I suspect the meaning is being lost in translation. Your boyfriend is French and he is getting this from a French source so he should inquire about what it means from the people giving it - instead of you asking here. If what is needed is a statement of your being single then it is usually gotten from the Filipino consulate or embassy in France since that is where you plan to marry. Usually such a thing is pretty straight forward although the document(s) might have to be translated into French by a certified translator.

The problem that can come up for Filipinos is that their country officially doesn’t recognize divorce – something seen as a basic right in most countries. Thus a Filipino might get married and later divorced elsewhere and by the rules of other countries be seen as able to marry again – but not be able to get certification from the Philippines since they don’t recognize the divorce. Such other countries might make an exception and allow the marriage in such circumstances but a Filipino would have to understand that their own government will not recognize the second marriage. For a Filipino living permanently abroad tis might not have much significance but if they return to the Philippines it will be complicated since they have a unrecognized marriage and any children resulting from this will be considered illegitimate.

Hi Cyrene

Do you have a visa for France ? Most of the couples think of the administrative part of their wedding but generally forget about the basic : the visa for France. Because it is very difficult to obtain one, most of the weddings are in the Philippines.
Good luck

Go to your consulate and get it straight from the horses mouth for your requirements and the procedure to secure, don't rely on here say on expat forums, though most correct if you want to be legal and married spend the time with your local immi office and dot the "I"s and cross the "T"s.

cheers, Steve.

I don't know about getting married in France, but for getting married in the US it involves first going through a long visa process with lots of forms and other requirements. If you are not familiar with the details, consulting an immigration attorney is probably advisable. If it saves you a single trip back and forth it will have paid for itself. The certificate of custom sounds like a cedula, but that's just a guess.

No, France is not the US and the situation is already cleared up. Like I wrote in my first post, it had to do with a document showing that one is not married.

And I've negotiated marriage, permanent residency and eventually citizenship in Germany without ever using a lawyer. One just has to ask the officials and fill out the proper forms instead of paying thousands to lawyers - except in exceptional cases.
