Just for fun: History of England

Hi and thanks for the questions.

Iconic monuments - my choice would be the Tower of London, Windsor Castle and the Houses of Parliament (Big Ben is the bell in the clock!).

National Anthem - strictly speaking, it's God Save the Queen; however, that is actually the National Anthem for the whole United Kingdom (so, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) - so individual nations have unofficially chosen their own - England choice appears to be "Jerusalem".

Iconic Figures - Oliver Cromwell and Winston Churchill

National Day - England doesn't officially have one, although some chose to celebrate it on St Georges Day (23 April).

Turning Point - The English Civil War (1642–1651) - was the turning point that removed the Monarchy as the absolute rulers and created the roots of the current UK parliamentary system and democracy, some say the beginning of the current world-wide system.

Wales and Scotland have their own, but N. Ireland is like England and doesn't.

God save the queen by the sex pistols, but only if you listened to that stuff in the late 70s

John Lennon and John Streed, the latter not being all that real

St. Goerge's day is about as close as you can get but you might well be told you're a racist or jingoistic nazi if you hang up a flag and try to celebrate it.

5. Which are the most important turning points in the English history?

The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes invading.
The venereal Bede - it was the venerable Bede but it seems he had the clap
The Vikings invading
The Normans invading
Henry VIII deciding he fancied a new wife, thus starting the church of England
Mr. and Mrs. Shakespeare deciding to get married
King James being crap at Greek

1. Nelson's Tower in Trafalgar Square, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle
2. God Save the Queen (or King)
3. Isaac Newton, Christopher Wren
4. Not specific but could be the Queen's birthday or St. George's day
5. Several, but 1973 the UK joins the EU, 2019? the UK leaves the EU. Older might be 55BC (Cesar), AD43 (Claudius)
