Scams Sent as PM on Accounts

Post new topic

A few times there were private messages in the past sent to my acct at Expat.com as being suspicious as SCAM! So I just blocked and deleted them right away.

But two days ago, two messages were sent as PM to me, one being calling my attention to a long lost relative in English and another a gorgeous young woman speaking French from Flevin, France asking to be my contact. I was excited as to who out of the dark from France would pick me as a contact? So I pulled out my long abandoned command of the French language and started to exchange "louanges, salutations et civilités en français."

And then she responded in broken English this time to better communicate on my private e-mail, Skype or Google Hangouts. That sent a red flag to me that it could be a SCAM. So I looked her up on https://images.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl! And sure enough, that gorgeous woman was depicted as a person who asks money later on due to her personal problems, etc. She was implicated on various dating sites, from Russian to American and so forth on social media. Her IP address allegedly ranged from Paris, France to the Ivory Coast.

So look their pictures up on images.google.com. Click on the camera icon and either paste the picture´s URL, drag the picture up or upload!

Enjoy!

Don't delete them
Report them
The scammer will get IP banned

Reporting the PM allows senior moderators to access THAT message, so can deal with the scammer.

The scammer has a broad swath of IPs. He/she change them as needed as has been detected. That is possible with the use of VPN in which he/she
could be in Germany now and in a second in Vietnam...

Tap the three dots next to "Reply" to open the menu there.  Select "Report".  Fill out the form and hit "Report".

Yea thats where it gets difficult. because to really crack down on that you need to have more of individual person identifying / verification for account creation, but that would drive up privacy concerns as well. so most as suggested just report / hope for the best even if it is frugal, It still helps!
