Renting apartment in Budapest on tourist visa

Post new topic

Hello everyone, I'll be moving to Budapest soon for the educational purposes.

I was wondering, would I be able to rent an apartment in Budapest (for 6 months) since I will be there on tourist visa? I don't know Hungarian law, but would I be able to sign a contract for rent taking that I'm on tourist visa?

Any help is welcomed :)

Where are you from originally?  If your nationality is allowed to stay 6 months then you are safe.

Owners don't care really so long as you have money.  If you paid all of the 6 months up front, they would be very happy about it.  It's not up to them to check your immigration status.

Even with a valid residence permit, most owners would not consider renting to a foreigner. Those who do, prefer the seemingly wealthy (and seemingly honest) german medicine students, who can pay above market rates. You're pretty much stuck either with the expensive short term rental (airbnb) or sharing your room with students...

I just saw an add on FB group for ex-pats in Hungary, Yesterday in fact. In the 7th district a room will be available very soon for 97,000 Forints per month with a private patio. Flat is 2 rooms with shared bath and kitchen, think the other person is a student.
Near the metro line.
Sometimes they have situations available on that site.
