Hello everyone,

First off, I am very appreciative to anyone who responds and can give me some direction. I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this question.

As an introduction, I am going to help a friend of mine that I met in Hong Kong achieve an annulment in the Philippenes. She has been separated for over 10 years from her husband, and is now encountering significant legal difficulties in getting re-married and also has issues regarding property. She has asked me to aid her in this process.

Additionally, I am not too familiar with the process. I am looking for an attorney for her who will be honest regarding the details of her case.

First off, I understand that choosing an attorney and the judge assigned to the case play a crucial role. She is willing, and able, to travel to any lawyer on Luzon, ranging from Baguio to Manila. Also, cost is not an issue as long as it is within a normal/reasonable range for a high quality and attentive attorney. This leads to my first question:

1. Which district/city/province (however it goes) offers the best rate of return for annulments in terms of how long it takes, and success rates?

And now to the second question...

2. Does anyone have any recommendations of names of attorneys who have a good track record?

Once again, I am very gracious to anyone who can point me in the right direction in regards to my questions, as well as if there is a proper forum or organization to contact to answer my questions.

There is another route to free her from the marriage which is called "presumptive death" or  "presumptive death for the purposes of re-marriage" and this route also takes less time and costs much less. This depends on the lady's personal circumstances of course but it may be worth discussing with a reliable attorney.

Please do a search. There is a very long thread on this topic. It is not as simple as you think and may be complicated by children, time together, current living situation, city of residence vs that of the respondent, court backlog, etc. I have had one ongoing for over three years now and doubt it will ever be done. And it was a simple one with no kids, only one year of marriage and the ex was a drug addict. Of course you can throw money at it but they have closed a lot of the old loopholes like filing in a city with a lenient judge.

Here is a fairly recent thread on the subject:
