The lessons of the crisis in Costa Rica

Post new topic

Loïc

Hello everyone,

While there is still a certain amount of uncertainty in our lives, the situation seems to be beginning to change in Costa Rica and globally.
We have had to show courage, tenacity and even ingenuity in many areas, in the way we work, in being alone or with our families, in how we look after our children, or we channel our stress and emotions in the face of this health crisis that has turned our daily lives upside down.
We wanted to hear your feedback on these last few months in Costa Rica.

What will you remember from this very special period?

Have these unusual times allowed you discover things about yourselves or your loved ones?

Did this period lead you to make changes in your lifestyle that you would like to maintain in the future? If so, which ones?

How do you plan for the future in Costa Rica? Have the last few weeks caused you to review your priorities or certain projects?

Thank you for your contribution and take care of yourself,

Loïc

I can think of no better place to weather this crisis,  have felt very safe and secure. The authorities have handled what I have seen in an extremely professional manner,  they have been very serious about from the beginning,  I feel fortunate to be here, life is very good in Ocatal,  pura vida

We on my 3 acre piece of paradise for 32 ters have felt very little inconvenience...apart from my very few tenants not having schools  open (there are 3 within waling distance. With ourspring weather and lots of space to sit outside..life here in the Hills of Heredia, has been fairly normal.   I have only 3 apartments plus a Chalet to ent so the 3 kids are being home schooled so no big deal..
NOW as for he CAJA the public health system, I got in onder the wire for a serious operation.
Since that I am still able to get my nedications but things have slowed down and doctors are way too busy  checking for Co virus which is where all of surrounding areas send patients because geringos THINK because realtors tell the they have medical nearby..those areas are only clinics for minor injuries and not for serious things like the virus...Gringos refuse to believe that and they have small clinics with not the best doctors who prefer to work in the much larger, more mordern hospitals with all modern machines etc... hence the lucky oneslike us have best of both worlds tranquil country settings yet ONLY 10 or 15 minutes to huge newer hospitals.. that also goes for restaurants and cafes who deliver gormet food for about $6 full meals and pizza plus juice...so no need to risk going out ..just a phone call away..plus having 3 acres to meander .there are very few tenats (3 families. lots of beatiful views and room for social distancing...so keep Central Valley i mins when moving hee...like our Hills of Heredia with perfect climate Average 70/75 deg year round and we do not feel cooped in.  and are much closer to Airport and Sn Jose IF needed ( YUK ) SJP Airport is what they nicknamed San Jose Airport WHICH officially  planes do not d NOT land in the city haha... but 25 minutes from HEREDIA...yet no noise...so is closer to us than San Jose and MUCH closer than ANY of the Gringo Gulches (plus we learn o speak Spanish instead of chasing other Gringos :) in Gringo gulches such as...
jaco.Escazu.,GreciaAtenas, Santa Ana
(All priced higher to suit the Gringo lifestyle..yet we have it all malls ,Country clubs, huge supermarkets ]NO SHORTAGES WHATEVER.EXCEPT DOCTORS NEED TO CHANGE MASKS OFTEN..SO WHY AREN'T YOU SEAMSTRESSES HELPING OUT THE BRAVE FRONT LINERS ???
(and i bet the GRINGOS pay a fortune to have food delivered IF in fact they do deliver.
0  ..we are experiencing QUARANTINE in a very civilzed way..even our farmers markets deliver...  unlike most   Gringo areas ....pura vida.kids re enjoying their home schooling..

What I learned from the covid-19 crisis is what can happen when a government acts swiftly and decisively and has the full backing of the pueblo. The power of a unified country. As bad as things are, Costa Rica is one of the safest places on the planet right now. And as things open up I expect that will not change.
