Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Brasilia, Brazil (May 25, 2020)

Location:  Brazil

Event:  Travel Restrictions to Enter the United States – Update to Entry into Effect Date to 11:59 EDT May 26

Entry is suspended, per Presidential Proclamation, of foreign nationals of all nationalities, including Brazilians, who were present in Brazil within 14 days prior to their arrival at the port of entry in the United States.  This policy, which is intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19, now enters into effect 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on May 26, 2020.

The travel restriction does not apply to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), most immediate family members of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, and specific categories of individual visa holders who are identified in the Proclamation.

The Proclamation does not cancel flights.  Regular commercial flights to the United States are still available from Sao Paulo and Campinas.  Please contact airlines directly for the most current schedule information.

We continue to encourage U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States to make commercial flight arrangements as soon as possible unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.  The COVID-19 pandemic remains an evolving situation and flight schedules may change with little to no notice.  The U.S. government does not currently anticipate arranging repatriation flights from Brazil.

Oh yeah. Airlines are capital intensive and should be flying to keep them around. Other airlines taken out by COVID-19: Avianca, Virgin Australia, Flybe and two regional carriers
that fly for United and American and owned by Trans State Holdings - Compass Airlines and Trans States Airlines.
