standard UK redundancy rules?

Post new topic

I'm working in Iceland for a company that's owned by a British company. All the management is in the UK and we're currently going through some restructuring that has resulted in people being laid off. It's going a bit strangely and I'm wondering if part of the reason is due to the differences in rules and regulations between the two countries.

In the UK, how long is the standard notice period? If someone is let go during a restructuring (i.e. not because they were watching porn on company computers and company time), are they given 2 weeks pay, none at all, a month? Do people usually work through that time or not?

Hello,

there is no standard notice, it all depends on your contract. For example, I have to give 3 months notice if I want to leave to they have to do the same but then depending how long you have work.
They also could put you on garden leave which means, you would stop working straigh away but you will still be paid for your notice period.
