OMG!
I left the UK 13ears ago and have yet to return, and I'm really glad I did.
Apart from my old town now being infested by total and utter morons on spice (and other drugs), it seems the UK's Financial Conduct Authority are a set of blithering idiots.
My sister, who shares the same surname as me, can't put 500 quid in cash into my account using my paying in book as putting small amounts into a third party's bank is likely to be terrorist/drug money laudering.
Not that such rues stopped them assisting dodgy Russians with their dodgy cash, but what the hell - when did common sense ever come into the UK financial system?
Jesus H. <Naughty word not typed> Christ - what a set of <Naughty word not typed> cretins.
I was incredulus, flabbergasted, befuddled, and generally discombobulated by the stupidity of it all, but that's only the start.
Over here (Indonesia), we're supposed to be a developing country, but our banking system makes the UK's version look <Naughty word not typed> stone age.
I have the choice of at least two branches of every bank within a mile of home, and so many ATMs I can't count them. I can use ATMs to take cash, deposit cash, pay bills, transfer cash, and very probably get a cup of coffee, but the UK's pathetic shadow of a version means hardly any ATMs, and fewer bank branches than the UK financial conduct authority has brain cells ... then covid rules that most sub 50 IQ idiots can see are beyond <Naughty word not typed> dense.
For those in the UK GET OUT
For those interested in an expat life in the UK - See a head doctor in the hope of them curing you.
I won't bother with the survey but I believe my impression of the <Naughty word not typed> UK is pretty clear in this post.
I called the bank with the intention of giving them a serious <Naughty word not typed>ing, the bloke on the end of the phone explaining the issue was down the the Financial cretins authority. I asked him if he was in the UK, him answering he was in India - I congratulated him on not being in the UK.
Yours,
Someone that would prefer his toenails removed with a pair of pliers rather than ever visit the UK again.

Don't listen to Fred. They UK is very nice, unless you are a money launderer
I left 12 years ago and it was the best move I ever made and I tend to agree with Fred.

Sadly, you're wrong. The UK is exactly where those interested in money laundering want to be .. or at least want their money to be laundered.

I base my conclusions on 45 years of living in the dump, all that time watching the country (England) turn into a drug dealer infested shitehole that's unfit to live in.
Now watch this
https://youtu.be/ovpRyYukU5A
The fact he can get off his head with easy to buy drugs is bad
The fact he's happy to use drugs in the open is worse
The almost complete lack of reaction from passers by is bloody atrocious as it shows how 'normal' such behaviour is in the UK.
I ask myself, would I want my kids growing up in a filthy toilet like that?
The answer is bloody obvious - NO!
Sad as it as because there are many things I miss about England (especially the terrific Indian/Pakistani food, the stunning Yorkshire countryside, and England's amazing historical sites), the place has deteriorated into a mess hardly worth visiting.
I won't go too far into politics, but Boris has naffed up the government (especially with the coronacockup), and the despicable bunch of plonkers that constitute the opposition are a lot more interested in using the pandemic for political point scoring than doing anything useful.
Seriously, Boris blatantly helped his corrupt pal keep his job and can't get anything right, and the best the socialists can do is get a millionaire to lead the party of the working man. As for the LibDems - Look up the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum and you have my opinion.
There's non-partisan politics at its purest - The lot are pointless gits - The idiocy screams at you, but they get elected anyway.
It seems 24% of the England's population think the flag of St. George is a racist symbol, and the fact this is open to debate is nothing short of pathetic.
If some council tosspot went to a house in Malaysia, the US of A, or Indonesia to order them to remove their national flag, they'd get told to sod off on a good day, and become unelectable as soon as the news got out. However, being proud of your country in England is almost a crime, and you're assumed to be a racist idiot because of it.
I recall a total dick from Rotherham council informing me I was a racist because I answered 'English' instead of British when asked my nationality. Another told me I was racist because I asked a lady who was clearly from a Pakistani Muslim family if she could speak Urdu and help me to confirm a translation. I suppose I should have asked a selection of white people and a few Chinese first so I didn't racially profile her. The lady I asked was really nice, very helpful, and not even slightly offended, but it was racist to ask her - That's the sort of utter cretins Rotherham council employ.
It wasn't until my first trip to Malaysia that I really opened my eyes to the serious dump England is but my eyes open wider every day.
Look at the latest stupidity that means some expats will lose their UK bank accounts - It matters not a jot that they've held their account for many years without the slightest problem, some moron has decided to naff people up because the government is too incompetent and/or pathetic and unintetested to sort out something that should be extremely easy to solve.
Return to the UK? No chance unless I became seriously mentally ill so had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
Gareth_is_Curious wrote:It might be a bit more helpful if you said what was wrong with it. Have you had trouble laundering money?
I'm not a Russian oligarch or international drug dealer so I would have problems laundering cash in the UK. However, I do have a HSBC account so there's hope for me yet.

I left the UK 41 years ago, and have only lived back here for 3 or 4 years, but my intent was always to get away again. This has got nothing to do with money laundering or drugs of anything like that. My reasons are that there are so many more interesting places to live so why stay in the UK? For me, living in a country other than your own is like being on a permanent holiday.
There are some great things about living in the UK, I like the food, amazing countryside, pub lunches, closeness to the continent, social security, healthcare etc. And there are things that I dislike such as violence, sometimes unfriendly or aggressive people, shops closing early, monotony, weather etc.
Ultimately, everyone has a different opinion based on their own personal experience. A couple of my best friends have just retired. One is moving down to Cornwall and looking for a house to buy and will spend his retirement surfing and traveling around the UK and overseas. The other goes boating on weekends in Devon where he keeps a boat at the marina in Torquay. And both these friends often travel overseas.
So I think living in the UK is not bad, it just depends on your own personal experience and which part of the country you live. My own experience is mostly in the south of the country and I have no experience with drugs or money laundering and I assume that is normal for most of us.
As for this moment, I am fit and healthy and have no plans to return to the UK for now.
Done, very useful survey!
