Internet Setup for foreign residents

I’ve recently moved to Bavaro from England and I’m unsure on how to go about getting internet for my apartment.

I know that it’s hard to get contracts and such without being a resident. I previously read on a previously post about Viva and I did pay them a visit but then again they told you that you need to be a resident there to get the MIFI.

So I’m all a bit lost now.

Any advice you may have?

We were able to get mobile phones through Claro without residency. We just had to provide our passports as identification. We had to take a local translator with us to help them understand that we were not just looking for a vacation plan, but rather something long term. I think seeing our Residency Visa might have helped as well since that indicates our intent to stay.

I would think that internet access/mifi would be similar.

Hi, Welcome to the DR.

Bavaro area:

A couple of choices; Silver Cable, Altice, Claro and Activa come to mind.  Orange is for mobile, I don't believe they have cabled services.

These services may or may not be available in your area.  Not all are.  Activa is with CEPM, the electrical company.  Claro is the largest provider.

If you rent your apartment, try getting your landlord to make arrangements for your internet.

If you own the apartment, you should be able to get service but you have to be a little more creative.

PM me if you need further assistance.

Cheers,

There shouldn't be a problem with getting service.  I have people that come to stay for a few months and send them to Claro.  They all get what they are looking for.  I have had some clients that just get the pay as you go plan which met their needs and surprisingly, seemed to work very well and quite cheap for them.  There are many options and you may want to try some short term inexpensive plans to "test" the water.  Passport should be all you need.  Claro loves to see your financial status but you can work your way around that one too...
