Hi. I know this topic has been brought up before, but what happens if I overstay my 30 day tourist entry by a couple of weeks?  Is there a standard fee paid at the airport?  Can I get a new 30 days by crossing into Haiti for an hour?  Is there anywhere outside of Santo Domingo to process an extension?  Thank you.

thecolonel

It will just be a smallish fine when you leave...less than going to Haiti.

Simply go online and apply for an extension of stay on your 30 days tourist "card".  You can apply up to 120 days which includes the original 30 days.  Any fine is paid either online or at the airport.

WillieWeb

There is an English option  online if you need it

Looks very easy to do..... you need a return ticket

It is so easy as 'ducketts' who was one of the first to use this online service, confirmed in another thread.

The first link gives you the procedure and the on the second link you will find the access to the portal to apply online.

There is absolutely no excuse for anybody wanting to stay for up to 120 days not using this service and then being told they are illegal after the 30 day tourist card stay.

This new government is different to any that has been in power before and is implementing the laws so when there is an easy fix you should jump and use it.

I think I need a return ticket to use this online service, and I don’t have one yet. I am already going to lose the return portion of my ticket in order to spend some extra time here. So, I’d prefer not to have to decide on an exact date of departure in advance. I’m traveling around the country by bicycle. I’ll soon be in Dajabon, and I am wondering if I can just cross the border and then cross back for an additional 30 days.

planner

No you cannot. that will not reset your   30 days.  Best to buy a changeable or cancelable ticket.

WillieWeb

Free changes these days..... and always 24 hrs to cancel

Change the ticket.....free..... then change it again.... free

You will not lose the return portion if you do it right

thecolonel

Several mentioned  different options , but mine is valid, confirmed, days ago.

planner

Of course.

My experience was that I never got the online extension to work properly. So, I went to the airport and got an extension quickly and easily for 2500 pesos right next to the immigration area. I overstayed by 11 days, and I was delayed not at all at the airport

DominicanadaMike

Robert, I believe you must apply for the extension before your 30 days runs out so in your case, forget about it.  Pay the overstay fine when you leave...

planner

Sounds like exactly what he did.

Paying at the airport when you leave is not the same as the online extension.

WillieWeb

No - I disagree
Sounds to me like he went to the airport before his 30 days and extended there

Might be easier if the computer frustrates your effort

If it was the extension.  The statement was a bit unclear. So hopefully he will clarify for us.

WillieWeb

He said  he got an extension.....

Clear to me...... he did not pay on exit nor was delayed

The extension goes right on the passport
They see it at Migracion//// Pagado

Under the tourist visa, if we stay through all the extensions and then go to Florida, when we return do we start a new clock for the 30 and 120 day extensions?  Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I didn't see the question in the discussions.

ddmcghee

Yes - the clock resets each time you enter the country.

Thank you!

Hi, i just came across this thread and am alarmed to see this! I have lived here for several years and I've always crossed over to haiti and paid whatever overstay fee I owed at the Elías Pina border and got a new 30 day stamp when I re-enter. If I cross before the 30 days is up i don't have to pay. Is this new with the new administration? If so do you think that i would be asked to pay the overstay fees, again, at the airport when I fly out?? Doesn't seem like i would be asked to pay them twice, but this is DR

I attempted to use this online service. When I tried to use it they are requiring me to get a medical certification before I can complete the application. The government website does not list this as a requirement, but the application will not let me proceed without uploading the medical document. I called the phone number and they said this is required. They stated that their website that lists the requirements has not been updated. I have researched that the medical exam can cost hundreds of dollars. If I go to the airport without this pre-approval for the extension, will I only pay the fine? I will have been here a little over two months.

phannigan75

The medical letter is your covid test. Back in April they made me get the letter from the results of my covid test. But when I left about a week ago they didn't have me get one because I have my covid passport card. I just paid the overstay fee

warmstrong92404

How much is the overstay fee I arrived on the 17th of May my return flight is July 17th

wndrmutt

I will get my Covid test three days before I depart. I also sent them my vaccination card from US but they rejected it and said I needed a medical certificate from the DR. I will just try to pay at the airport.

WillieWeb

Warm strong…….2,500 pesos

The medical certificate for extension is not anything COVID specific! It has nothing to do with the negative test you need to get back home or your vaccination status.

It's to show that you are healthy enough that the DR is okay with you staying in the country for up to 120 days.

I just went to the doctor here for an annual physical and the doctor's fee was 1500 DOP. I can't imagine that seeing a doctor to get a statement that you are healthy would be anywhere close to hundreds of dollars.

wndrmutt

Thank you ddmcghee. I will look into it directly with a medical facility here.

DominicanadaMike

They just need a note from the Doctor (stamped) that you are in good physical condition.  Nothing more... 500-1000 pesos.  Just go to a clinic, not a fancy medical institute.

wndrmutt

DominicanadaMike, Thanks for the advice. My wife called a doctor local here in Boca Chica and yes he will certify and he is coming to the house to take care of it since we have a worker fixing something here and could not leave the house. Very helpful.
