I have a cat that I want to move with me from US to Malaysia.
If any of you had this experience, please let me know if you utilized a pet moving company or just had the pet travelled with you.
Any pointers you share are very much appreciated.
Thank you
Fred

Hello Fred,
You can get your cat(s) into Malaysia but there is a mandatory quarantine at KLIA. The paperwork is pretty intense so I would highly recommend that you hire a pet agent (here in Malaysia) to help with this. Yes, you can go down the list yourself but if any piece of paper isn't quite right you will have problems. An agency will guide you through the requirements so there will be no hassle upon arrival. I am pasting below my reply to a similar inquiry from the vet who helped us when we moved from Cambodia to Malaysia a couple of years ago..

Thanks for the inquiry! Saya and Kiki survived the 7 day quarantine probably better than we did. We went with a service called PetAir and a guy met us at the baggage carousel. There was some very official paperwork checking and then they get taken straight to quarantine. It was a small room to themselves and they had to be in separate cages the whole time. Saya was able to get out once a day to walk around while the guy did the cage cleaning but Kiki wasn't interested; she just stayed curled up in her cage and looking grumpy. I wish they had tried harder to get her out and moving. But PetAir delivered them to us after the week and within a few hours of groveling, apologizing and making offerings of Fancy Feast we were gradually forgiven. A few days later we moved to an apartment where we will be for a year or so and they have settled in very comfortably with no signs of stress. All in all probably a worse experience for us than them.
I would suggest for your future clients that they bite the bullet and hire a pet service. PetAir was fine and was the same price as another one we checked (forgot the name): RM 1500 (about US $ 360) per cat. But they make sure the right paperwork is asked for, help get the Malaysia import permit, meet at the airport and deliver at the end. They do the cleaning and feeding every day (and sent some photos/videos on Whatsapp which were mainly depressing). The facility is at the KLIA airport which is an hour outside of Kuala Lumpur so visiting them (especially if you don't have a car) is difficult.
Malaysia airlines got an airport guy at the Phnom Penh airport and he was great with getting them checked in, weighed and taking about $120 for the excess baggage.
All of the paperwork was scrutinized at every step so thank you for your help with that. The specific requirements were all in place for shots, rabies vaccination, Cambodia export permit, your OK on the health check, etc. No problems with any of that.
It was weird that the Cambodian export permit needed to be requested less than 30 prior to travel, that it takes 2 weeks to get it back BUT needed to be dated less than 7 days prior to travel. (Our two visits in mid May and then June 11.) But your colleague got that straightened out so all's well that ends well. But it does seem like a contradiction in time line, if you see what I mean.
Anyway, they are fine, happy and healthy. And once again confidently in charge.

Adding to the above: another requirement is that they have that micro-chip thing installed. It will be checked.
   Good luck!

Thanks for the info, I also was going to relocate my 2 cats but when I know about the quarantine conditions I changed my mind.
7 days in a cage!
Glad your cats could make it.
