Hej,

Great to hear your coming to Sweden. I wish you all the best, but it won't be such a bed of roses in the beginning, but you'll surely settle down smoothly. Good luck to your future country of residence.

Hello Sweden,

My interest in living in Sweden half of the year comes from three things:

1) I admire the high happiness index.
2) I read that Sweden's golden visa allows residency with a $100,000. investment in a local business.
3) I am looking for locations for a 10 X Living community as a micro-culture focused on sustainable well-being and heard that Sweden has low bureaucracy in rural area and low cost land.

The project is outlined at: [link moderated] and I would love to learn more about how it would/would-not fit well into Sweden.

Warmly,

Dane

GuestPoster306

Hello, welcome to the forum!

If you wish to know any specific information about Sweden, feel free to start new threads.

Regarding low cost land in rural areas, the answer is yes but mostly in up north and definitely not in or around Lund where you want to be.

Regarding low bureaucracy, the answer is; Sweden has a very high lowest level in almost every thing and bureaucracy is not an exception. Cheers!

Dane Rose

Thanks, Finnbo. I thought it was a mistake to require someone joining the site to state what city they want to live in for this very reason. I could not join without saying something but it turns out Lund is not a good place for this idea.

[[Sweden has very high lowest level in almost every thing and bureaucracy is not an exception. ]]

Are you saying Sweden has more red tape around construction or less?

Best,

Dane

GuestPoster306

If it is, more or less, depends on which other countries we compare to.

Sweden has had a solid bureaucratic foundation since 1500 CE and it has grown to a very modern type of bureaucratic system that is very efficient and works perfectly fine. And as everything else it also is for both good and bad, depending on how you would look at it. Regarding construction rules and regulations, yes there are many.

Dane Rose

Thank you Finnbo.

I'm Carla, by the way. I'm portuguese, from Lisbon, and moved to Stockholm in November last year. I enjoy a lot living here, although I'm still organizing in terms of work. Coming from a southern european country, I had the impression swedes were very cold and not very friendly to foreigns. And that's absolutely the opposite!!! I already have few warming friends, and giving the actual circunstances, this is the place where we can still have a bit of social life, something fundamental to the human beings, in my perspective.

Shyamila

Hi Julien, thank you for having this forum for expats :)

Hey All

This is Shyamila, a lovely Sri Lankan, who recently moved to Sweden with my husband and one year old kiddo. We moved here in last November and it's just 4 months in the country. My husband is reading for Msc and we live in Västra Frölunda. We both are academically qualified individuals where I worked as an Operations Officer for HSBC for 12 years and my husband worked as a telecommunication engineer in our home country. Hope to have a nice stay in the country and seeking for some job opportunities as well :)

Thomas Wilbur Davis

Hi people,

I am Garima, I am from India. I am a game designer. I will be moving to Malmo in couple of months. I am kinda nervous and happy. Hoping for the best. ☺️

GuestPoster306

Welcome to Sweden Garima! Happy for your coming, but you are far from Stockholm. I have some few Indian friends here working in Astra Zeneca & Scania. They’re working with Info Tech. Just be careful in Malmö, it’s quite known for high criminality among immigrants there. Just be safe. It is a lovely spring out here now and for sure you will enjoy the Beautiful spots in Malmö.

This is the latest Swedish crime statistic;   https://www.bra.se/bra-in-english/home/ … stics.html

And this is the latest crime statistic report by Malmö kommun itself https://malmo.se/Fakta-och-statistik/Tr … alm%C3%B6.

There are approximately 15000 different kind of cases reports to the police per every 100000 inhabitants in entire country. In Malmö it is about 15700 cases while in Stockholm it is up to 22000 cases. source https://www.scb.se/hitta-statistik/stat … lda-brott/

Therefore you by yourself can easily see that your statment is false.

Thanks 😊

akosiblumey

hello,
newbie here trying to know exact information about how to work in sweden now that i am a holder of long term visa (2yrs) in Czech Republic. i wanted to work also in sweden.

Zenahbett26

Hii, am Zenah Bett a Kenyan citizen but living now in Bahrain as a housemaid. Ijust see on YouTube about Sweden house maids and am pleased. How will I apply

GuestPoster306

Hello Zenah Bett, Welcome to the forum! I don't know what you have seen on YouTube but in Sweden such a housemaid system like in kingdoms in Middle East doesn't exist.

However if an individual or a company wishes to buy all the services that include in a housemaid's work can be bought from a company that provides those services and the company in turn hire all their professionals from the local labor market, note that it is regulated so, therefore there is no where you can apply for housemaid jobs in Sweden as a non EU/EES or Nordic citizen.

Now I may have disappointed you but for sure will you not be a victim of any scam, neither now nor in the future. All the best!

Hello Vattenfall01_04, First of all "that marked statement" is called a quote just like I have done now, I have quoted you. I did it last time because it was a false statement. False information is not acceptable anywhere and absolutely not in accordance with the code of conduct of this forum.

This forum is for sharing authentic and fact based information, only the truth and nothing but the truth.

Therefore I had to debunk your false statement with the facts from the authorities of the Swedish government.

So now I am very curious to know how or what kind of actions one can take against when one had been debunked with facts for being false. So please go ahead and take action against it! Maybe I have missed something here I would like to see it. All the best!

Why my post is deleted?

GuestPoster306

Hello, Welcome to the forum! I saw your post yesterday there you had some kind of a link that had automatically gone under review, I guess it was because of it... However a team member will eventually explain to you why your whole post is gone. Cheers!

Ben Gregg

My name is Ben and my wife Debbie and I are planning a move to Sweden with our two daughters (currently aged 2 and 5). Because my wife is Swedish and I am also French (I have dual French & US Citizenship), we've now registered for my residency in Sweden. Once we have my residency permit (and the all important "personnummer" that I'll need to work and do my banking there), we plan to start the transition--hopefully by late Spring of 2021.

Currently, we live in Boston, MA in the US, where I work as a technical recruiter for Cengage (an online learning company) and my wife works as a preschool teacher at an outdoor preschool. So our hope is to find similar jobs near Lund/Malmö (where my wife spent her childhood), and ideally also a nice home near Lund so that our two daughter's can attend the Lunds Waldorfskola in Södra Sandby.

I'm planning to visit the forum to search for answers as well as ask questions about things like taxes, banking, mortgages and hopefully eventually finding a new job there.

Alan.Alf

Hello My Name is Tarek, I am from Lebanon.
I am planning to move to Malmö to my siblings, but it is not easy to do it at present from Lebanon due to the economic situation we are facing. What I would like to know how would an e-commerce brand work in Sweden (as I am starting something soon)?

If you can assist in giving your opinion on the form I would be thankful:

Just finished a mock up for my website too : https://onemilenomads.ucraft.site/

Thank you all I would like to get to know all of you if possible too  :D

Hi, we are a Maltese couple with two kids, an 11 year old and an 8 year old. We are exploring the idea to relocate to Sweden.

Any suggestions from where to start? Is it difficult to find jobs? What is the best route to start searching for career opportunities? What entity do you suggest to seek recommendations? Is it very expensive to live in Sweden considering a family of two? From which source shall we seek for accommodation?

Welcome to the forum! Take a look at the website of Swedish Public employment service here  https://arbetsformedlingen.se/platsbanken/ as you can see they have various useful information in other languages but the vacancies section is only in Swedish. That is actually an indication for job seekers to get an idea about one would need Swedish language knowledge to a some level to find a work here. I saw that this is common to all EU countries even though there is so called free movement right for EU nationals.  However since this thread is mainly for members to introduce themselves it is better if you can ask all your queries in relevant sections by starting new threads so we may can try to help you better. Cheers!

Godfrey Onen Omony Kerali

Hello Carla,
I am from Uganda and live in Stockholm, Sweden. Swedes are reserved but very friendly if you get to know them. So, people should not listen to what other say about other people until you travel and experience it yourself. I enjoy living and working in Sweden. It is easier to get well intergrated if you saty with and among Swedes.

I lived and worked as an insurance expert and Accountant in the UK for 4 years.

I love dancing Congolese music, Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba (but not professionally). I also like travelling, hiking, eating nice food and drinking some red wine, and enjoy life.
I have to warn you that, Sweden is extremely cold and has very long and dark winters, compared to the nice sunny weather in Portugal and my country Uganda.

Godfrey Onen Omony Kerali

Hi Garima welcome to Sweden in advance, and good luck with everything. You will enjoy Sweden, apart from the very dark and cold and long winters : a very nice life experience.

garima chauhan

Hey thanks 😊, yeah I have arrived in Sweden. I am excited but I am afraid of the winters here though :P.

Godfrey Onen Omony Kerali

Oh, thats great. Don't worry about the cold, dark & long winters coz you will get used to it..

Danish Mongolian couple planning to settle in Malmoe during 2022 hereto exploring housing options and how to better understand current regulations to obtain Swedish permanent residency and eventually citizenship.
We have lived and worked internationally for the past 25 years in 8 different countries and are now starting to explore how we can best settle in Malmoe, whether we can afford ocean view and where the nicest community is located in Malmoe. Tax regulation hereunder retirees from the UN and opportunities for language classes. Among many other questions.
We are excited to join this group and hope to meet many like-minded people.
Thanks and best wishes.

The all time best Nordic footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born in Rosengård in east Malmö, which is one of the areas in Sweden that unemployment is high and most of the inhabitants of the area are low income earners, therefore the area is one of the most troublesome places in Sweden. However, eventually when Zlatan became one of the Sweden's most richest people, he bought a house in Limhamn in west Malmö by the sea, which is one of the Sweden's most attractive areas to live in, along the Limhamnsvägen. Actually one could take an easy, effortless cycle ride between the ordinary east Malmö and the rich west Malmö, although the price difference of the properties of these areas are enormous.

Nordic citizens are allowed to live which ever the Nordic country they prefer to live in, but if their family members are non EU/EES citizens they need to apply for residence visa. However one can only be registered in one Nordic country at a time and that makes things easier to pay tax in the right place.

Please don't hesitate to start new threads to ask anything you want know about Sweden! and open the Sweden guide under Discover on the top of the page, there you have useful info.

And welcome to the forum!
