Self employed applying for family reunification

I plan to move to Germany to join my EU National wife. I don’t think she will make enough money to meet the income requirements. Therefore I am thinking of registering as self employed and teaching English online. This leads me to have a few questions.
1. Can I register as self employed before applying for my residence permit to present the officials with our combined income rather than just hers which I believe to be insufficient?
2. How difficult is it to register as self employed? I have heard it’s one simple form and also that it’s a complex process.

1. No
2. Registering the business is reasonably easy (provided you speak German well enough to understand legalese). Registering with the tax authority is more complex, but doable. However, following all the German accountancy and taxation rules is even beyond most native speakers unless they are trained as accountant. You will need professional help here!

I have the impression, from your several postings in the last few days, that you are looking for an easy way out. Trust us: There isn't one! (We do not state this to disappoint you, but because we know it for a fact that Germany isn't welcoming to foreign freelancers.)
