How to tell if an expat contract is legitimate

Post new topic

I received an expat contract from AYAZLI Corporation. Read through it and looks good. However in one of the clauses the following is stated;

"10.0 Non-Turkish Residents:
Ayazli Oil & Gas Corporation will provide Non–Turkish Resident Employee with Four (4)
Years Multiple Entry Turkish Work Visa (or family Visa if any) with Resident permit and will
also bear the cost of flight ticket for employee to arrive Turkey to assume duty but due to
the recent inflow of illegal immigrant to Turkey it is mandatory that Non-Turkish Resident
employee should put down the stipulated security deposit as was stated by the immigration
department to enable them grant employee Turkish Work Visa in compliance with the
Republic of Turkey AND European Union Terrorism and Border Control Act."

This kind of looked strange as most companies take care of all expenses pertaining to paperwork for obtaining work and residence visa.

Can anyone offer information on this?

Fred

Hi, it really does seem like a scam.

In cases like these, you should always ask for official documents such as trade registry numbers, etc., and also references. Most countries have an online registry that you can search about the companies. Not enough of them are in English, but with the help of google translate it does the job.

In Turkey, you can use "https://www.ticaretsicil.gov.tr/view/hizlierisim/girisyap.php" to search how old is the firm etc.

You should check their internet presence and make sure that it is not a newly founded website. Even they not using SSL is suspicious. But if you reverse search the images you find that CEO is not who says he is :). He is actually another guy who is a civil servant. Pretty sure all of the photos are similar. Additionally check them out on social media, especially on LinkedIn, if they are who they claim to be they will usually have a Linkedin page and profiles.

Also, try some keywords such as "firm name" + "scam" and google it. If it is a scam it is high likely that you will see some posts for it.
