Work Permit for Mauritius

Post new topic

Adolphjnr

Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well and are safe?
I need some help and advice regarding a work permit for Mauritius please.

Do I need to have one before applying for a job?
I have been applying for a lot of jobs but the only reply I’m getting is “unfortunately you've not been successful”. Is this because I don’t have a work permit as well as not mentioning it on my CV?

Would you please be so kind and assist me with what I need to do and where to go?

I hope to be hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Adolph

Hi Adolph,

You don't need a work permit/occupation permit prior to finding a job. It is under the responsibility of the employer to fulfil the formalities for the permit/s (registration with the competent authorities) once he offers you a contract/recruitment commitment.

The thing is that there are laws that regulate the employment of foreigners.

Salary requirements :

"A Professional should earn a monthly basic salary of at least MUR 30,000 (IT) or MUR 60,000 (other sectors)"

So, the employer should be able to provide you the above salary and prove that he couldn't find anyone locally to perform that job. Also, at the moment, there is a 14 days mandatory paid quarantine for anyone entering the island, so that also comes with a cost.

I would suggest that that you keep on trying, I have read your other post and can see a lot of potential. Follow the advice you have been given as to :

- Create your CV in the Jobs in Mauritius section (Expat.Com gets lots of views as the website is dedicated to expats).

- Get in touch with Recruitment Agencies in Mauritius

And here are some tips :

- Build of your network on LinkedIn

- Try to do some research on South African companies that have branches here (you will find lots of them) and contact them.

Hopefully brighter days lie ahead,
Best of luck,
Anoushka
