Late insurance for renewal of residence permit

Hello everyone! Romanian here, married to a lovely American lady and residing in Bucharest.
We got her 1st residence permit (valid for 5 years) back in July 2017, so it is due to expire July next year.

We had to get her a private health insurance at the time. However that would not be accepted the 2nd time, and we will have to get the national health insurance.

Does anyone know if getting the national insurance so late will be an issue when applying for renewal? I have read that some were told they had to have paid for the whole 5 years, only to be told at CASS that there would be no legal basis to charge them for 5 years - this was on a forum post from 2012 however (different website), and I don’t know if it happened in Bucharest or elsewhere and how it turned out.

In short, will there be issues if she only gets the insurance now (1 1/2 years before renewal of the residence card) and will CASS provide proof that can be used for that purpose?

Hi,

I am Romanian married to an American, living in Bucharest :). My husband renewed his permis de sedere in July, but I remember that this question came up each time he had to do it.
When he went to Anaf, which was one-two weeks before his appointment to Immigration,  he only payed for a month or two (I can't remember exactly; he also has a private insurance). Then he went to CNAS, they gave him the required adeverinta, and it was enough.

That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for!
I might actually be able to have her co-insured according to a reply I got from CASMB.  Either way, it seems like it should all go smoothly.
Thank you very much Laura!
