Tourist visa rules and checking

Hello!
I am a NON-EU citizen however I hold a German residence permit (type D).

I am entitled to travel to other Schengen countries for 90 days out of every 180 days.

My question is this:

How is this 90/180 day rule enforced? How do authorities track/trace/know when a traveller with a residence permit has spent more than 90 days travelling in other Schengen countries? Surely they have some way of enforcing this?
Normally 90/180 day rule can be enforced by looking at a travellers passport, however, when the traveller has a residence permit, the dates in the passport are of no use.

Also, when is this check likely to occur? When I fly home to my country after my residence permit expires, are they likely to pull me up at the airport and look over how many days I spent outside of Germany in other Schengen countries? Or is it only gonna happen if I get unlucky at a border crossing?

Visa-free foreigners will after leaving Denmark to another country once again be able to enter Denmark and stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period as visa-free. The authorities can request documentation as proof that you have left Denmark and made a new entry. This can e.g. be a plane ticket, train or bridge ticket or receipts from the country you have departed to.

I can only recommend to you that you comply with the rules for your own sake, and that you make sure that you have proof that you have done.
