Hi Steve
How did you manage to move to Romania, any advice. I’ve been trying to move there for some time now.

Hello Stephen L,

I moved back in the good old days when Britain was still part of the EU... The main requirement for me once I settled here was to obtain a residence permit and I assume you will have to do the same whatever your nationality.
I now have to renew my residence because of Brexit but will wait till after I am vaccinated before hanging around government offices to submit papers.
The documents needed to support the application are listed on the immigration police web-site and most things are in English. Even the office staff usually speak English
I am married to a Romanian so she took me through the process first time but I applied for the renewal in person and it went smoothly
I live in Ilfov/Bucharest so things are pretty cosmopolitan. Generally Romanians seem very welcoming to foreigners so it is likely people will be ready to help. There are also agencies  which provide the service to help you do what is needed and your embassy will probably give you a list of contacts for that purpose.

Hi Steve
My partner is Romanian and she too lives in Ilfov, because of the travel bans I haven’t been able to get there for a while although I’ve had one vaccine with the second due very soon. I’ve tried everything to get work there, have pretty much applied to every vacancy I can find, ideally I’d like to find work there and at the same time start freelancing with the long term goal of setting up on my own. Brexit has thrown a monumental spanner in the works I’m still very disappointed how the vote went and hope that all the negative impacts that the U.K. has seen since leaving will make a few reconsider and renegotiate. I’ve travelled to Romania many times with my partner, she’s Romanian but has worked overseas her sister works in the U.K. , I love Cluj and Brasov and hopefully one day I’ll be living the dream as you are with your wife and be living in Romania also. Hope everything is well and thank you for replying.

Regards

Stephen
