Buying or building a house in dakar

I tried to post this before but not sure if it worked or not.

I am looking to buy a house or build one in Dakar. I am wondering how financing works there. I there an option to have a contract with a construction company directly? Maybe make payments over a set period of years or something?

Also, can anyone recommend a good area to build or buy in? I very much like sacre coeur, liberte 6, mamelles, or Yoff(near the beach)

Also, I am wondering if $100,000 to $150,000USD  is a reasonable amount to find or build something nice in Dakar?

Thank you!

Thank you!

I'm in Saint Louis but I've heard that small, vacant lots in Dakar, and not in those prime areas you mentioned, are going for around $50,000 US but that, of course, depends on a lot of factors.

The only option I know of is direct contact with the construction company/workers. In Dakar things are definitely more structured but here there is no “company.” There's just the “head guy” you were referred to by a friend and his workers.

Based on stories I've heard, I would never entrust money to anyone without being here to see with my own eyes how it is being spent. Photos are not reliable.  If you have someone (who's not broke) on the ground that you would trust with it, then that may be an option. I highly suggest that person have some previous building or construction management experience (not a laborer). Hope this helps. Good luck. Come home.
