moving stuff from Italy to UK post brexit taxes?

Later this year we will need to move some goods from Sicily to London (we are based in London).
I understand that since Brexit kicked in, 20% tax is payable on goods beyond a small allowance (we would not be transferring residence so I don't think we would be exempt from this).

Can anyone give me an idea of what the logistics of this would be, how would we determine the value of the goods -  would we make an inventory and self-certify the value and the mover then deals directly with the customs people?
Also, I don't know if company recommendations are allowed here but if so could anyone suggest a good mover ?
Many thanks

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

The value of goods will be determined by what is stated on the receipts.  If you have no receipts, then you have to give your best guess estimate.  If HMRC doesn't agree with you, they will tell you what the value is and charge you accordingly,  It follows that any evidence you can give for coming up with your value (adverts from stores) will improve your hand when dealing with HMRC.

As for adverts, try looking in the Services and Classifieds at the top of this page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Cynic, there would be no receipts as it's either normal old family stuff plus a few antiques. I guess giving an estimate would therefore entail trying to value similar items on ebay or similar, a logistical nightmare.

Hello,

If you already own your items you can request a ToR release from HMRC by attaching a precise list of what you want to move from sicily to London.
request information by email:
nch.tor@hmrc.gov.uk
they are very helpful and you will have the right step.

Regards

for your moving you can google

Thanks Gege, I checked and unfortunately the Transfer of Residence can only be used if you have been resident in the country you are moving the goods from (in this case Italy). I am and have been resident in UK for years so cannot use this I think.
