Moving to Sweden just before the crisis

Hi everybody,

Taking the plunge and daring to move abroad is a real challenge, but when your move to Sweden is marked by an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis, as we have been experiencing for just over a year, this change can be much more significant and demanding. If you moved to Sweden shortly before or during the pandemic, we would like to know more about your experience.

When and under what circumstances did you move to Sweden?

What impact did the restrictions have on your integration into the country?

Were you able to make new friends in your host country and get used to the new culture and environment?

Have you had the opportunity to discover the country or the region where you are staying despite that?

Do you feel "at home" in this new place?

Thanks for your contribution!

Hey there,

I moved to Sweden in late September 2020. At first I had planned to spend a few weeks to reconnect with an old "friend" , then continue to France and then back to North America. Things turned out quite differently as I am still Sweden and planning on moving here for good.
The pandemic has definitively hindered my ability to meet with a lot of people and visiting the country. It is adding a little more challenge for learning the language and finding employment.

I met and meeting new people through my "friend". Integration to the Swedish culture has been so far not a problem, but things may be different once I start working.

I cannot say that I feel at "home" in Sweden, maybe in a year or two, right North America is home even though I have noticed some changes.

Hi Diksha!
I moved in Sweden under circumstance on family reunion! And it was 2015 where I decided to adopt the Swedish society by attending the language was most of the challenges which I come across. And 2016 I was chosen to the project whereby I was studying language 20 % and working 80% . I started making so many friends since I’m social person.
I love the country living standard and up to date in so many technologies. But I have studied the course and trying to get internship in this particular pandemic it too difficult and job as well.
So if you are planning to move to Sweden think about their language is the key of your future!
I hope you have got the information and I wish all the best.
