Hello everyone!

I am currently considering to work in Valletta, Malta as I have a pending offer with an employer there. My concern is, I am offered 23euros p.a. -- how much would my net pay be after taxes? Also, I have having difficulty trying to find salary information about Malta so I would also like to know if the salary offered is commensurate with the cost of living in Malta, would I still be saving enough money with a modest budget? How much is the usual monthly cost of living in Malta (i.e., rent, utilities, food, etc).

Your inputs/ comments would really help... thanks in advance! :)

23 euros is not a lot per year - i suspect you mean 23000 euros - and on that basis i would expect you to be paying approx 2200euros in tax per year and then a further 2000 per yr or so for national insurance...so on that basis you should take home approx 19000 euros per year and that is pretty good for malta IMHO. Obviously the cost of living is completely variable depending on whether you have a family to support, how and where you live, what accom you choose, how often you socialise, how much of the utilities you use, whetehr you will run a car or use public transport...etc.... but on the basis of the above figures I would expect to be living comfortably and still be saving a reasonable amount regularly.

the average wages here is not good as many people are on the national minimum wage...... and below in some cases. but in your case you would be well above it.

hey toonarmy! thanks for the correction -- yes, I meant 23,000 euros per annum (what was I thinking? ^_^) anyway, considering that i would be modestly living in malta (no cars to run, simple apartment would do, decent utilities), how much would you expect me to spend monthly on the expenses? I do not have any family to support since I am single, so I'll be going in Malta alone... a rough estimate would be a really big help.

Btw, glad to know that the offer is quite reasonable. Thanks for the info :)
