Moving stuff into the country

Hi everyone! Just recently joined and already learned a lot from this group! We have purchased a place in LT and will be moving there over the next few months or so.

One thing I am a little unclear in is shipping our “old/existing” household items in. I *think* I understand the details for brand new things and trying to bring a car in but unclear about trying to have *some* of our long time owned stuff (e.g. beds, small appliances, dishes, warm weather clothes, towels, TVs, etc). Will they want to place an import tax on our old stuff? We are going to “purge” most of our stuff for sure but it just seemed silly to re-buy everything.

Any insights you can be provided would be greatly appreciated!

We are so excited about this new chapter of our life’s!

Welcome to the forums! Glad we are helpful.

So unless you are importing using a residencia exemption every thing you bring in is subject to tax and duty! Every single thing! Think carefully about what you bring. Values are placed on a whim it seems!

We brought in a 40' container last fall after we got our residency. We didn't bring a lot of furniture, but we did bring in a ton of kitchenware, electronics, and other things that wouldn't be cheap or easy to replace! We also brought in our car.

If you are getting residency, I highly recommend taking advantage of that benefit!
