Haha good luck! JB can seem a bit much but there's some awesome stuff in it. Gianni's is the beat restaurant in town. Assam pedas botak is the next best but you'll never find it without a local. Where to live - depends on your budget. If you can afford it, go for Horizon Hills - it's beautiful and if you're into golf the course there is really good. Nightlife not so much but head to The Zone (it's duty free) for bars and clubs, or there's always Singapore just a hop skip and a jump over the causeway! Hope you have fun :)

I would advise you to first lodge in a hotel and, from there, take a walk around. Buildings with vacant apartments are shown by placing inscriptions bearing the landlords' phone numbers on them. I must advise you to be wary of racketeers. Safe journey as you leave for Malaysia, the heart of south east Asia.

Nope - I'm English and I live in KL, but my husbands family are all from JB so have spent a lot of time there. Give me a ping when you arrive and next time I'm down we will take you for a drink. Who are you working for? Not so many expats in JB!

@Lauriebug, that is nice of you. Wish all Expat.com members would be like that. At this juncture, may I sincerely thank an Expat.com member, Jacbrown, who, last Saturday, invited me for a cup of tea. It was a nice meeting which I consider the meeting of African culture and Australian culture. We sat down over the tea and argued certain issues based of culture and practices.

Please be careful when you walk out as JB has a high crime rate. Don't want to frighten you but you should be aware. Hold tightly to your bag and always walk against the traffic. Be aware of your surroundings and if you feel someone is following you, go to a crowded area. Would advise you to avoid walking alone in isolated places.

Hey rksandhu- many thanks for the travel tip- I have been advised to be aware at all times as JB appears  not to be one of the safest places in M'sia- thank you.... advice appreciated! Cheers x
