Life as a digital nomad in Sri Lanka

Post new topic

Hi everyone,

Digital nomadism has become more and more popular in the past few months and Sri Lanka seems to be the perfect spot for it.
If you are a digital nomad yourself, please share with us your experience of this new way of working in Sri Lanka.

What motivated you to take the plunge? And why did you choose Sri Lanka as your new home?

Were you granted a special visa? What documents did you need to apply for it?

Which sectors allow you to establish yourself as a digital nomad? What do you do for a living?

Where do you work: in a coworking space, at home, in cafes or outdoors? Is your internet connection satisfactory?

How did you find your accommodation in Sri Lanka? What did you opt for: a flat / house on your own, co-housing, or a room in a bed and breakfast? How much do you spend on your accommodation each month?

Thanks for your contribution!

Yes I agree that Sri Lanka probably could be a perfect spot for a digital nomad because of very low cost of living and high value for your money and also very advance high speed internet coverage and kind and helpful people and endless flow of low cost services and easy to find cheap rental etc.

But there is one thing I like to point out is the visa issue; there are no any special visa projects for digital nomads that allows working, unless you are hired by a Sri lankan or international player who has a local branch or an on going project in SL. Nearest one can come is tourist visa that one can renew up to 180 days in two legs, 30 day entry to 60 90. That means you need at least one more country to couple with to be a digital nomad in SL if you are not happened be a "snowbird".
