Dear All

I am Arifur Rahman, currently living in Melbourne (Australian citizen), recently got an offer as an Assistant professor from SQU.

The salary offered by SQU is RO1450. Currently, I am earning more in Australia than what has been offered by SQU. I have a family with two dependent children's of 14 and 8 years of age.

'I have a PhD and very good publications (A* and A-ranked) along with over 17 years of teaching experience at the university level in Australia (more than 4 years as casual) and overseas (more than 13 years as full-time).

My Queries:

I am not happy with the salary offered by SQU. Is the salary offered by SQU (RO1450) for Expats is OK/common in general at the assistant professor level? Is there any opportunity to bargain? If so, how?

I am not sure if SQU give less or more but my friend is a Senior Lecturer in MTC. It's a government college in Oman and he get around 2500 to 3000 and they give him housing allowance. They also give allowance to kids to help in their school fees. Maybe you can ask them to give you more coz of your achievement and coz you earn more there. One of the good thing in Oman is there is no tax in salary and company usually give you accommodation or allowance for house or flat. That's why people choose to work there. My friend save a lot than when he works in UK before.

Hi all,

Is there anyone in the forum who can provide more information about the salary scale of SQU (as assistant professor) for the expats?

I presume that since it is a contractual job, the salary level varies from candidate to candidate.

Please assist me by providing more information about SQU jobs, contracts, salary for academic (assistant professor) having a PhD from Australia with over 17 yrs of University teaching experience plus publications in leading journals.
