New Passport - 90 days extension

Post new topic

KellyMarieD

Hello,

I was in Brazil on a tourist visa, applied for an extension and received the 90 day extension.  I left Brazil before the additional 90 days was completed.  I stayed in Brazil for a total of 130 days.  I plan on returning to Brazil this coming September to stay for the additional 50 days.  My passport was stolen this past weekend here in California.  I am starting the process to get a new passport.  Will the new passport be an problem when I return to Brazil?  My visa extension was stamped in the one that was stolen.  Or is everything computerized now and they will be able to see the original extension?  Thank you for your time.

Kelly,
We are sorry for the theft. I would consider speaking to the Brazilian Consulate before returning. They may be able to help with documents for entering Brazil.
All information is supposed to be entered in the Brasil MJ system, but there are many that state they had issues due to no electronic information was entered.

Hi TexanBrazil, i hope you are doing well.
I was wondering if someone has overstayed his tourist visa, so when leaving Brazil, will Policia Federal put a stamp on his passport that confirms he overstayed??
Thanks

PF will stamp "multa" and enter overstay and length of overstay in the system and passport. You can pay in full when leaving or pay, with interest, on re-entry. The multa used to be ugly red stamp. I do not know what they do today

I was able to get in contact with the Brazilian Embassy in Los Angeles.  They were not able to give me any information other than, "you have to contact the federal police in Brazil."

Can anyone point me in the direction to do that?  I have been googling looking for contact information for the Federal Police location at the Santos Dumont Airport in Rio.  This is where I submitted my paperwork and received the extension.

A phone number, link or email would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again!

The number that Google brings up for the Federal Police Immigration Office at Santos Dumont in Rio is  55 21 2203-4771.

Based on your original post, I don't think that you have anything to worry about.  If you call them, don't be surprised if they don't have an answer for you.  You didn't overstay your visa, you don't plan to overstay your visa, so I doubt they'll see a problem.

Thank you! I will call just to check. I plan on bringing the original paperwork I submitted for the extension including the appointment confirmation and Requerimento de Prorrogação de Prazo as well as my local police report showing the passport was stolen. Hope it is all enough.

My Brazilian wife has had absolutely no problems getting her Brazilian passports, and her voting justifications, through the Brazilian Consulate, in San Francisco.  They have been very fast with us.
