Narrow sewer pipes in Turkey ?

Post new topic

karmsun

I know; this is not a subject talked about a lot but I have to know.
Does Turkey have narrow sewer pipes like Greece where you can not discard your toilet paper in
the toilet and flush it but discard it in a can next to the commode ?

I really hope it is not like Greece but I want the truth please.

Thank you very much

nilufsen

Yeah, it is exactly like that in Greece. All Europe is the same, I guess.

karmsun

Thanks nilufsen , I was born in Europe and have been to most countries there but Greece is the only place I know of where you can not flush your toilet paper. And you are saying it is like that in Turkey too ?

nilufsen

You may flush, it works but it causes problems in the infrastructure one day. I stayed in U.S for three years , the system is different, the flushing is so strong

karmsun

Yes, much more sanitary

Guest6818

my experience is yes the same is true in Turkey.  at least where we live.

We got connected to municipality sewerage a few months ago and i saw the terribly thin pipes they installed - so yeah, no toilet paper should go in there, it will clog everything soon

karmsun

I can not understand why ?  The price difference can not be the reason for jeopardizing the health risks of having a bucket with used toilet paper sitting in all the bathrooms ?

Does anybody know the reason ? I'd like to know.

we always flash in the toilet never had a problem it may depend in the housing.

karmsun

I hope that is the case where I will be staying;  in Greece they use same size pipe and was asked not to throw toilet paper in toilet but to discard it in bucket next to toilet.

It is no problem, it's all good, it is all what we get used to

This is really wierd and interesting topic l would like to clearify. Sewerage system in USA is pressurizeid so that everything you throw in it can flow. However in europe system is based on EN (european norms) and working by gravitational flow. So pipes are narrow and more sensitive. Because of the operational costs (european system is much more cheaper because no pumps needed) europa and Türkiye choose this system. On the other hand it is much more environmental not to throw anything on sewerage system. I recommand you to use trash in Türkiye and all over the world :)

I agree, it is weird and interesting. Not all sewer systems in US are pressure sewers; plenty of gravity systems also but no place I know of that regular toilet paper is a problem and I have travelled to many places in North and central America. I was born in Europe and travelled extensively there too. The only country I have been to that I was asked to not flush paper down toilet is Greece. I lived in Asia a few years and no problem flushing paper; at least the places I visited. Please educate me what other countries toilet paper is creating problems if flushed ?
I would like to know,  :(

Thank you

I think it's disgusting to use the loo and put your paper in a bin, you should be able to flush everything away, it's the hygienic thing to do, typical of Turkey, do everything backwards, and I know this because I live here.

Most of the chatter about sewer pipe size completely ignores another important factor: the paper. Much money has been spent on developing paper that dissolves or at least partially dissolves when flushed. As a result, the toilets easily and successfully allow modern toilet paper to be flushed down without a problem. Just don't attempt to flush large amounts at one time.
