I got my temporary residence visa from Ecuador consulate in Toronto but wish to travel to Quito in December.   Will there be any problem as it will be more than 90 days

Dear Alisagar,

Welcome to the Ecuador forums of Expat.com ...

Congratulations on receiving a temporary residence visa.

Why would you anticipate potential problem(s) if the visa has been approved by the government of Ecuador or one of its consulates?

If you are concerned, review your travel dates before booking with the consulate .. and scrutinize the language of the visa for any limitations or restrictions.

I was told that I should enter Ecuador within 90 days. I have asked him for extension. Didn’t get reply

You will have to book your travel by the 90-day deadline in October unless or until you are approved for the variance you are seeking.

If the official answer you receive is No Extension, see if you can re-apply within 90 days of your preferred travel date.

Another possibility, if there is no extension available, is to come in December on a tourist stamp .. and extend in February on the tourist permit.  This tourist extension may cost $130 although the original tourist stamp was free.

A further extension in the form of a visa could theoretically be sought while in-country in April or May.

Thanks. If no extension is given I will come for a week and get my cédula. Then come back in December as planned to get away from Canadian winters

That could work.  I'd run the concept past your consulate, because...

(1) There could be delays in processing cédulas during The Situation...

(2) You may need to avoid potentially violating a regulation about spending too much time outside of the country in the first portion of visa/cédula time.
