Hi,as a SA citizen,and the fact that i must have proof of health insurance for the year i want to stay in Mauritius,can i use my existing Medical Cover that i have as proof of this,or must i apply for an international very expensive health cover?

Hi, the same would apply for myself and family moving from Botswana.  I did check with my local cover and I will be covered by them while on the island.  So going this route.  Once we are settled on the island, then I will be purchasing local medical cover.  Comparing the island to what Botswana offers, both were very similar in costs.

Look into Med Aid MUA call Denise Laure  23057056086 flaure@mauritiusunion.mu.
Or look into Discovery Health Classic Core  and speak to Pieter Steenkamp  27793447317 but discovery classic Core only covers hospital and chronic meds no savings or visits to Dr.

@myb003 do you possibly have and email or physical business address where Pieter Steenkamp can be contacted - does he work for Discovery or is he a broker ?

Foreigner Medal ins, I got quote from Global and Signa both $2-4000 pm, our SA Discovery is R4500pm (much cheaper).
I'm still waiting MUA medical aid.

@myb003

I emailed Pieter Steenkamp (details above) and he confirmed that South African Discovery Health does qualify for the Mauritius Premium Visa - as long as you get Discovery’s International travel cover (free add-on) and Africa Travel Benefit add-on.

Otherwise also get a quote from Swan insurance in Mauritius (not cheap, but good)
here is Swan’s Brochure:
