Hi everyone, this is a genuine request for help / advice. I work for an Omani oil company for the past 5 years. Unfortunately since day 1 there have been problems receiving salary on time during COVID not at all. New investors took over 3 months ago and now the nightmare really begins . Not only do the not pay salary they do not communicate or answer emails requesting when to expect salary.I understand this is illegal in Oman. The roll on effect of this plus non payment during COVID has now had dire consequences on my family. I just don’t know what to do, resign with nothing, go to the press to name and shame or report them to the Gov.
Please someone tell me if they have ever had experience of this and what they did or who they spoke too.

Go to your embassy. They will help you. For us Filipinos our embassy in Oman helps us regarding this matter. They have the power to help you complain in the ministry and suspend the hiring of staff to our country and pull out all Filipino staff in that company. But it will take a lot of time. The cases take long time to process.

Hi Flowerpot man,

As rainicz3112 has rightly suggested, you must alert your case with your country's embassy first. One of the key deliverables of the embassies placed in foreign countries is to safeguard and protect the interest of their country's citizens who are on foreign soil.

Secondly, is the majority of your colleagues affected by your company's failure to disburse salaries regularly on time, or it is only you or maybe a few more ?

If it is the former, then all employees must get together and file a formal complaint as a group with the Ministry of Manpower.

If it is the latter, then getting the back-up and support of your embassy is your best option.

Going to the Ministry of Manpower and fighting your case alone with your employer / sponsor is possible. However, the results may most likely go in favour of your employer / sponsor rather than to you, the employee.

I would like to also add that these forums carry innumerable cases just like yours. And there are very detailed and informative responses shared by many other expats. Please go through those posts as well, so that you are well-armed to fight this unpleasant battle.

May the Force be with you.

That's a best option to complain in your embassy.

Thanks everyone for your replies. In fact the whole work force is suffering. The point is that personally I have no time left to fight the company my family have held on as long as they could and now it foreclosure. For a company to totally disregard the laws of their own land and destroy their employees lives is unbelievable. Who would believe that the expat dream could turn into such a nightmare. I may well name and shame after I ‘m gone. I quit today. Going home to try to pick up what’s left of my life
