Updated SOPs and check in - missing home

Post new topic

With today's announcement on relaxation of sop for states on phase 2 and above is definitely a promising move and lot of locals are excited to visit their hometown in other states and districts. Still awaiting for KL though.

Post speaking to few locals, I felt too excited to board a flight too and meet my family in my home country but remembered that international borders are still closed.

Made me to want to just check in on our expats friends who are also possibly having a similar feeling to visit their home country to meet family. How are you guys feeling about the new updated SOPs? Do you think international borders might open for leisure travel by end of this year without any restrictions on departure and arrival country? Feel free to share your honest thoughts doesn't matter good or bad

Yes. it's really tough time missing my family and my baby girl for very long time. UAE and Singapore already considered to lift ban on indian travellers but yet no news from Malaysia. I really hope MY will consider too and I can meet my family and bring them back here. Let's pray for good news from government.

Im from the US and was expecting to make a trip back in Feb 2020. I was booking the ticket and thought I should wait and see what would happen with the pandemic. I chose to stay in Malaysia at the time because the govt said a lockdown would only be two weeks and I was afraid if I left I might have trouble getting back if borders closed. I was right.

Now its 17 months later and of course the lockdown continued and is worse than ever. I need to get back to US badly except now such a trip would be one-way so Im packing to leave for good. Its not what I want and I would have to abandon my family in Malaysia which is a terrible thing.

At this time I have no plan to take the vax and that will make things worse. I dont care about travel in Malaysia but getting back to US is going to be problematic especially if they go ahead and pass a law soon that requires vax for travel into or out of US. Im also trying to find a shipping company for moving certain things back and thats a huge headache too.

Im the type who doesnt get homesick so Ive been fine about that but I work in both places and covid has ruined everything.

At the moment I worry that the SOPs will mandate vax whether the new or old govt and Im wondering if its better to go live in the mountains to escape the spread of covid and wait for it to pass. That could be a year or two or 50.

Like many people, covid, SOP, MCO has wrecked every part of life whether its work, family, income, travel, etc. and im so tired I cant even think straight anymore. I know that people got marooned in various places around the planet and covid has divided families to the point that I see divorces happening on the correct belief covid will never end.

The immediate problem for everyone is that **IF** they can get a trip back to family they may not be able to return to Malaysia, whether its rules of Malaysia or the departing country or airline so choices have to be made with a lot of thought and research.

Yeah. The current political crisis with PM resignation and possibly the same group of people getting into power (I just hope that doesn't happen, it's like history repeating itself but not in our control either) is making it more worse. One very good thing in all this mayhem is that vaccination rate is exceedingly well done and looking forward to over 90% adults vaccinated by end of Oct as promised by gov. Hoping things should possibly get a bit better to open up economy and travel. Malaysia's one of main businesses is travel and tourism and a great revenue comes from international tourists but everything is shut down. And really unfortunate to see that recently the Fitch rating for Malaysia has reduced current year GDP prediction to 0% due to all the political and covid chaos here. That can possibly have a bad impact on big businesses who may not see growth in here and consider to move out.
Added to that, there is no news about KL and Klang valley moving to phase 2 as well and it seems like stuck in phase 1 forever now. Hope they consider opening up soon with the new government and open up international borders for leisure travel. I know it could be disappointing to the fearmongers in the group who just want to lock themselves down at home forever to escape Covid but that's not reality and things have to open for sake of livelihoods and economic recovery. Covid eventually will be like a flu and it will live with us.
