Overstay Brazil visa - fine

Hi -- I overstayed my visa by a number of months - was trying to get a student visa and it didn't work out. I was told when I left Rio that I could appeal the fine and it often worked. Does anyone know where you can appeal the fine? And on a separate note - I've seen lots of comments on here about people getting late payment fines on top of the fine. Is this common? I owe 9000rs and can't afford for it to be higher. Thanks! - Sam

I don't think that you have to worry about a six month ban for a brief overstay, although you may have to wait a while to come back if you've used up all your days.

Check with the PF in Lapa for good info, as @guerneca suggested.

@guerneca thank you - for a quick question about number of days do you think i need to agenda a visit or can i walk in? if the math really comes down to needing to leave or get banned for 6 months, ill just get out sooner than planned

As a follow-up, that was a fast and easy visit to the PF. Thanks again for the advice.

They advised that I was given 90 days on my last arrival...I'm a bit baffled by the math given how many days I've been in Brasil in the last 365, but I'll take it!
