I honest too God wish your father to at least reach the 100th year mark and then some. He sounds like a real treasure.

My German grandfather lived in the VA hospital most of his adult life, but not because he was injured or handicapped.

Back in the day, the US gov. treated Vets like pure Gold.

He was entitled to live in the VA just because he was a Vet.

Last time I visited him was in 1975, He was 93 years old, He passed just short of his 94th BD.

I guess I was lucky t be able to see him. ( he was born in 1882! was nearly 50 when my mom was born)

He was in great health for his age.No cane, walked fine and always dressed himself in a nice white starched dress shirt and nice slacks and shoes. ( After he passed the said they had found cancer in his stomach but they never told him to spare him at his age of any fear)

He usually wore a Stetson hat and a nice silver Bolo tie and jacket when he went out. ( Not a typical cowboy Stetson but a nice gents hat)

Very different for an old German man to wear a Stetson hat and Bolo tie while living in the east coast.

Must of been a habit from his Roughrider days with all the old cowboys in the military.

He rode the rails as a teenager after leaving the Army and probably visited the SW US and fell in love with the SW style of dressing.

He had all of his,"marbles" and knew what was going on around him. Sharp and fairly active. He wrote a monthly artical about world affairs etc. for his VA newspaper.

My other grandfather also wrote a monthly article for his fave newspaper, "The Pradva". They were a funny couple when they ever met up, one all American and the other, well, not going to name names... As soon as the whiskey started to flow they were best mates ever.

That is not cool that they lost your father hearing aid. My friend in AZ's husband needs a hearing aid too. He worked for years as a baggage handler for American Airlines.

My brother who was a American Airlines mechanic was mostly deaf in one ear frm his years of servicing jet in the USAF.

We have a nieghbor who is hard of hearing, she just about screams when she speaks.Poor thing.

Totally off topic here, got home today from getting my blood test taken.

3 plus hours back and forth across town.

Stopped and picked up sme Vitamin D-3 and some bone building suppliments. I know the best source of vitamin D is the sun, after that it's cod liver oil. I just cheaped out today and bought some from Rossman.

Eating cod liver in a can with the oil at least nce a week is ideal, the taste, well IDK.
