some videos show people with $300 us dollar two bedroom  furnished apartments in different beach areas of Mexico.

Do you know of any of those around Ajijic? In the Laka Chapala areas?   maybe it's too much of a haven for American retirees to be economical.

ALSO:  if most of this area is a cash economy -  what are some ways you found to carry $$ safely?  And, about how much do you have at your apt before you go to the ATM?  or Bank?
thanks.

I dunno about 300... thats getting into the bottom tier :D  So you can get a nice place for around 4-600 for sure, pretty much all over Mexico except maybe the boujie parts of TJ, PV, CDMX, etc.  Why not just look on Facebook Marketplace?  You can see tons.

I am even starting to see foreigners looking for 200 dlls rent places. Very alarming. You  also get what you pay for. In Ensenada I mean, dont know about other parts of Mexico.

moved to Mexico City recently, started with an Airbnb for a while, while we looked around and found the neighborhoods that worked for us. Then called some realtors and landlords from signs we saw in the neighborhoods. Found a nice 2BR furnished in a nice area for $400. This is our 4th city since becoming  full time travelers 2 years ago, similar story in each place. Don't try to find the end result before you get there, find a place for a few weeks or a month (much cheaper) then discover the city, neighborhoods and find apartment if you decide to stay. IMO :) Also I recently switched from a money belt to a fanny pack, that I carry in the front, under my un-tucked shirt. I also double loop the belt through two of my belt loops to prevent someone from cutting the belt and running freely away.  Good Luck
